"A Meditation on the Purity of Goodness" [Thompson, 22-December-2025]
I'm curious, and perhaps I will find out the view of the highly religious mind as we have decided to take this path for this talk, although, it sounds like an intriguing place to begin. The psychological task here is to discover why the human organism cannot be UTTERLY GOOD. The scripture quote, and I rephrase "when a man is born again, old things are gone and all things become new." Put more directly, this act, done in absolute sincerity-transforms the individual inside-out. This implies the individual "is a new way" of living, and new in this sense means not being a slave to their old patterns but recognizing their limitations and triumphing over them. "New" in this sense also elucidate an intentional way of living which is not the result of the past cleverly improved upon. Having made this clear let us examine further without the filters... Have you watched closely the human race-how it is the most irrational, strangest, loudest believers and worshippers of mental invention of transcendental beings that will some-day solve our core problems that our inventions (technology and the likes..) have not been able to solve. Still, we are the most mischievous and selfish at heart. One cannot point to anything-totally good about human actions that is independent of cynicism. All of mans intentions to make the world a better place is worn shamelessly and superficially on our human makeover. Our authentic nature is always alert under this pretense, and with the shortest window of temptation-the mask falls off and the beast is revealed.
There is a saying "if a selfish person gives themselves up to be burnt at a stick, watch it, studies have proven-decisions of that magnitude are rarely taken without the selfish desire for gratification" . To put more frantically, we say, an individual is not willing to change the very moment they recite the few solemn words the clergy man dictates to them-because of a deep conviction, which is, their very way of life in the immediate now that is imperceptibly destroying their minds and society, (as a result of self-hypnosis) they are convinced if they remain that way long enough coupled with some selfish improvements here and there, they will attain a certain level of security and after (better late than never) consider change. Does it not vibrate right-through every fiber of our being that psychological hope is a very dangerous trick to besot so often in matters of this kind that determines the vitality of our lives? Psychological hope is as simple as speaking in the manner of " tomorrow will be better, give me time I will change" while knowing tomorrow never comes, that no one knows what may become of the morrow, but in all, we can be assured of slight certainty if we take a stand and act NOW.
Finally, I warn you to be vigilant with undivided attention in that very moment when you make that decision to change or live righteously (giving your life to a Gawd, being accountable to yourself, confessing that you shall sin no more and all that business which marks that moment) because if this act is allowed a split moment of consideration/ double mindedness be assured it is an exercise in futility. “The man who prays with doubt in his heart is like a hunter shooting with an unloaded gun” -Charles Haddon Spurgeon
